Free topic! - Crux Or Southern Cross

In this free topic I would like to show you my favorite constellation. Of the 88 constellations in the sky my favorite one is “Crux” called also “Southern Cross” in English o “Cruz del Sur” in Spanish. I love the apparent simplicity of this one, because many of the others constellations in the sky are composed of multiple stars and the polluted atmosphere of Santiago de Chile makes difficult to appreciate all their complexity. In the other hand “Crux” is always visible at night.

His name comes from the fact that this constellation its always pointing with one of his most brilliant stars to the south. This was helpful for travelers and sailors in the time when Europe expands his frontiers to the new world, America. “αCrux”, the star we see pointing south, it’s a system of orbiting stars -Just imagine suns orbiting around suns! So beautiful!

The anatomy of Crux its quite simple if we just focus on his four main stars -non amateur observation considers nineteen stars, but if we take a look at the sky, we will only see the main four. We talk about αCrux, the one who point south, βCrux, also called “Mimosa” is the second most brilliant, γCrux it’s a beautiful red giant, and it points North;  δCrux it’s a simple blue star and the less brilliant of the common four.  They look pretty close, but between them they have several light years of distance.

I encourage you to take a look at the night sky and see Crux with new eyes, you will not be disappointed.

Postgraduate Studies - Some Msc and Mphil.

Hi again! This time I will write a bit about my postgraduate interest. 1. Reasons to do the course Long ago I decided to stay on the subject of Urban Studies in Sociology. Later I realized that it was not a good option to seek a specialization matter, but to let it flow across our experience. Now I find myself between two broad areas that meet my interests: Latin American Studies and Cultural Studies; Cities are also an option . The main reasons them, are not only my intellectual interest but also the professional needs.   2. Where you would like to study Dreaming its possible, so there are two excellent and fast programs in the UK. The first one in London’s Economic and Political Science School [ http://www.lse.ac.uk/resources/calendar/programmeRegulations/taughtMasters/2019/MScCultureAndSociety.htm ] ] and the other one in Cambridge University [ http://www.latin-american.cam.ac.uk/mphil ]. Msc in Culture and Society and a Mphil in Latin American subjects. In Chile and other pla...

The best holiday i have had 💬.

In perspective, part of this year's holidays where definitively the better ones of my life. They took place in the famous "Litoral Central", what is, basically, the closest beaches to Santiago, Chile's Capital City. Between other journeys, i stayed there four days and four nights in a tent on a small house’s backyard in Las Cruces. Crosses Town [?]. In those streets i had time to look around for three things.       Landscape . The sea, when you walk through the sand, it’s always there. Cartagena and Las Cruces are pretty close, and you can get to another point, just by walking thirty minutes. These two old towns are part of one in many bays in the Litoral Central. Its usual to see Albatross, Pelicans and Numenius. By night the rusty city of Cartagena lights the dark sea with his houses over the hills.     Society and activity.  February, the road that connects the different towns of the location are just collapsed, the tourists are making ...

Free Topic! - Online Free Time Activity

One of the most difficult things to do in quarantine it's having fun when you can't get out or far from home. The first month of lockdown was a heavy torture, because I only had days when everything was: college - eating - household chores - sleep...and repeat. One day a former classmate of Concepción said to me " do u want to hang out in a virtual books club ?" and I was, at first, thinking that it may not work, but later the weeks and the sessions we had, I convinced myself with the fact that it was working, and quite well! actually we have 15 members. Now we have sessions all Thursdays at 9 pm. We chose a topic in the week before and we develop it in "front" of everyone. It's an important place to share ideas and new readings, and it's very helpful to take away some of the stress that means to be confined. The platforms used are various, we started with the standard 40-minutes Zoom, then we passed to Meet, but the last sessions we have been us...
